Customize a built-in check

Sometimes you want a built-in check’s rule with different values, and you want the original left alone. Save As writes your edits to a new check and leaves the one you started from untouched.
Before you begin
Have a package in a catalog your team owns ready as the destination for the copy.
Procedure
Open the check you want to base yours on
Under Govern, select Policies, then select Manage on your catalog to open its packages. Find the check and select See Current Configuration, then Edit.
Change the values you want
Edit the parameters and severity the same way you would when configuring a check in place. Nothing is committed to the original.
Choose Save As
Select Save… and choose Save As. This creates a new check carrying the edited values and leaves the original untouched.
Name the copy and pick where it goes
The name is prefilled as the original name with _copy appended. Change it to something your team will recognize, then choose the destination package, including the one you are already in.
Note: The destination has to be a package in a writable catalog. The Liquibase Default Catalog is read-only, so it is never offered.
Results
Your package holds a new check carrying your values, and the check you copied from is unchanged. The two are independent from this point, so later edits to one do not affect the other.
What to do next
You have a check of your own. If its package is not in an assignment yet, define policy assignments to put it in force, then set policy check severity and exit codes when it has earned your trust.
